Physical Therapy is the treatment of disease and/or injury through the evaluation of underlying pathology and the development of individualized treatment programs. As physical therapists (PTs) we establish goals that treat the symptoms as well as the causes of pain or disability. A comprehensive treatment may consist of a combination of therapeutic exercises and modalities, such as ice, heat, ultrasound and electrical stimulation, and myofacial release techniques involving skilled passive movement of tissues and joints. We work with you to help restore function and to prepare you to manage your symptoms and better adapt to any disability.
Physical Therapy Today
Physical therapists specialize in pediatrics, sports medicine, neurology, home health, geriatrics, orthopedics, aquatic therapy, wound care, electrotherapy, occupational health, women's health, acute care, education, administration, research and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. A physical therapist will evaluate and treat those with musculoskeletal disorders, neurological dysfunctions and those with other types of disease, injury or illness.
Manual therapy, joint mobilization and myofascial release are only some of the techniques we use to help lessen disability, pain and improve overall function and quality of life. We use special equipment called modalities when treating patients, which help aid in the healing and recovery of an injury. Electrical stimulation, hot packs, cold packs, infrared and ultrasound are only some of the modalities you may require during a treatment session with a physical therapist.
As part of treatment and the rehabilitation process, we will often stretch, strengthen, facilitate muscles, challenge your balance, test your coordination abilities, teach you home exercise programs and enhance your basic mobility skills. Our physical therapist assistants help with patient treatment programs.
As physical therapists we work closely with your doctor to develop your treatment plan. This helps you achieve your goals and individual treatment outcomes quickly and safely. Our goal is to reduce your pain, restore function, and promote as much independence as possible.
